Haunts: 2001 Planning and Set-up: Here We Go Again After putting over sixty hours of work into our Halloween 2000 Haunt, my casual question: "So... You guys are going to help me do this again next year, right?" was almost regarded as a joke. This, of course, was directly after the emotionally and physically draining event, when we, dead tired and still wondering what happened to the entire month of October, were about to tear down one of the biggest and most successful achievements of our lives. Time passed, our lives continued, and we had a while to reflect upon the experience. After I updated my website with pictures and descriptions of the whole ordeal, we had something tangible to show for our efforts. Looking over the pictures, we could recall the extreme success of our endeavor. We could recall the time we spent building it; laugh at the mistakes we made; remember, in disbelief, the five Arby's sandwiches we each ate for lunch that day. Before long, our Halloween 2000 haunt took its place as my defining memory for that year. By summer, it was assumed, almost without talking, that we would build another haunt this year, as if we'd been carrying the tradition throughout our entire lives. This haunt would exceed our last in every way. It would be bigger, better, and more elaborate. It would extend our abilities to their furthest. It would offer something unlike the neighborhood trick-or-treaters had ever seen. And so started our Halloween 2001 Haunt. |
